Rwanda — Land of a Thousand Hills

Nestled in the heart of East Africa, Rwanda is a country of breathtaking beauty and remarkable transformation. Best known as the last stronghold of the endangered mountain gorilla, Rwanda offers one of the world's most profound wildlife encounters — a face-to-face moment with our closest relatives in their natural forest habitat. Beyond the gorillas, Rwanda's rolling hills, volcanic peaks, and shimmering lakes create a landscape unlike any other on the continent.

Why Visit Rwanda

Gorilla Trekking — Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park is home to over a third of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Trekking through the misty forest to spend a precious hour with a gorilla family is a life-changing experience that few wildlife encounters can match.

Nyungwe Forest — One of Africa's oldest and most biodiverse rainforests, Nyungwe is home to chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, and over 300 bird species. Walk the thrilling canopy walkway suspended high above the forest floor.

Lake Kivu — Unwind on the shores of one of Africa's Great Lakes — Lake Kivu offers stunning scenery, water activities, and charming lakeside towns that provide a tranquil contrast to the excitement of gorilla trekking.

A Nation Reborn — Rwanda's story of resilience and renewal is as compelling as its landscapes. Kigali — one of Africa's cleanest and safest capitals — offers world-class dining, culture, and a moving memorial that speaks to the country's extraordinary journey.

When to Visit Rwanda

Rwanda’s highland climate and varied landscapes make it rewarding throughout the year. The best season depends on your priorities, from comfortable trekking conditions to lush, rain-washed forest scenery.

June to September — The Long Dry Season

Often favoured for gorilla trekking, with generally firmer trails and clearer conditions. Gorilla permits and sought-after lodges are limited, so advance planning is essential.

December to February — The Short Dry Season

A wonderful window for exploring Volcanoes National Park and pairing a forest encounter with time beside Lake Kivu.

March to May and October to November — The Green Seasons

Seasonal rains bring vivid green hills, dramatic skies and an atmospheric beauty to Rwanda’s forests. Trails can be muddy, but the landscapes feel especially alive.

Conditions vary with altitude. Our specialists can help you choose the right timing, secure permits and shape a considered itinerary around your interests.
